Excellent Lens for the money

Strengths: Solid built, light weight, come with lens hood, price. F2.8 gives better low light performance.

Weakness: Focus is a bit slower than Canon USM lens, but is much cheaper than Canon. No full time manual focus.

The sharpness of the lens is incredible. It is just a bit soft when use at f2.8, when use at f4 above, sharpness basically unchange. It use inner focus , so the ring would not rotate when focusing, so it is very nice to use filer like CPL.

Fast AF. Great price.

Strengths: Big aperature for low-light situations, fast AF, sharp results, solid build quality.

Weakness: Slight noise when focusing. No fulltime manual focus.

I bought this lens to replace the 18-55mm f/3.5 II kit lens on my 350D — there's really no comparing the two. The build quality is top notch. The zoom ring has a lock for 18mm. Good dampening on both the focus ring and zoom ring. The AF is very fast in good light. I would like to have had fulltime MF for very very low-light situations. When the light is very low, I have noticed that the AF...

Great Lens

Strengths: fast aperture; great image quality esp at f5.6; not too big, feels solid, high quality construction

Weakness: focus is off sometimes indoors, some corner softness wide open

This lens is a great alternative to the kit lens. I am using it with the XT and for its price, it is a great lens. I tested it against my Canon 50 f1.8 prime and it beat it at all apertures 2.8 and up. Very sharp lens once its stopped down to f4-f5.6. I don't even need unsharpen mask cause its so sharp.

Great lens. Dead accurate and fast focus.

Strengths: Works perfect on Canon Rebel XT. Super fast and accurate AF

Weakness: Not the best lens cap design - very hard to remove & replace while the lens hood is attached.

Shot a wedding with superb results. Great for wide angle in dark churches where it's normally hard to focus. Color does tend to be slightly warm - a characteristic of Sigma lenses from what I've read. Recommend!

Good lens good price

Strengths: The focus is relatively fast and not to noisy for me. Unless you want it dead quiet you won't have a problem. Pics are clear and build quality seems to be excellent.

Weakness: My first lens was cracked on arrival but still worked. I sent it back and it is on its way right now. I think it got messed up in shipping.

This is a great replacement for the 18-55 for a canon 350D or 20D becuase of its focal length which is bout 28-80 on 1.6 crop. This is my first SLR lens and I love it so far.
