Terastation by Buffalo Tech

Strengths: Easy set-up, storage capacity, safety, cost

Weakness: Limited media player compatibility, software load

I unpacked the unit, plugged it in and it was working. The only problem was that the client software would not load on my HP Laptop. Since I was able to run everything from the CD that has not been an issue, but it does cause a moment of concern. After setting the configuration options, I was able to access the Terastation from my HP, my wifes Compaq, my MAC and from the Buffalo LinkTheater...

1.0 Gig Tera Station - The best archive/photo solution

Strengths: All-in-one design, compactness, speed, setup

Weakness: Network traffic increased, Prices are still a little high

The Buffalo 1.0 Gig Tera Station has been on my want-list for about 6 months. My wife and I both have laptops as our primary machines and we needed a place to off-load some of our drive content. (Me especially as an amature digital photographer). The other challenge solved by this NAS, was the ability for my wife and I to have Norton Ghost automatically backup our laptops any night the laptop was...

Buffalo Technology TeraStation

Strengths: Storage Capacity, Value, Set Up & Configuration, Documentation, Technical Support

Weakness: One Year Warranty

Compared the value of this unit with a WD My Book Pro (reviews indicated that the cooling fans rival a 747) and Dell NAS. Read many solid reviews of this product throughout the Internet using Google. Recommend that you download and read the "User Manual" from the Buffalo Technology website before unpacking. Unpacking and installation with a D-Link WAP went very smoothly. Configuration is easy if...

This was very simple to configure...

Strengths: Huge storage space even in raid 5, simple, bulletproof software, excellent documentation, incredible price. Free tech support is noteworthy as well.

Weakness: Samba 2 means limited support for active directory. Hard drives difficult to physically access or replace.

This was very simple to configure once I downloaded the new manual from buffalotech.com. In my small network, it works perfectly, serving up media files and humming along very, very softly. I could have built my own linux box to do the same thing, but it would have cost much more and been a lot of work.

A Miserable Piece of Junk

Strengths: None

Weakness: Very Poor Reliability and Tech Support

I have been working with Tech Support for over 3 weeks now to try to address multiple issues. They include: Constant crashing; loosing the network link and the interface only working in Japanese. We have tried to update the firmware. No luck. Works the worst in a RAID 1 configuration. Tech. Support has promised to call back. They never do. They are not familiar with their product. It took them 20...
