Strengths: Extremely fast autofocus and large image buffer... Worked with the camera at the zoo recently with some action shots.. Nailed the images on most of the shots I took. Fast motor drive and great feel

Weakness: A tad bit heavy

This camera is similar to my older film camera A F5 system. Has the same speed in motor drive and allows for a high speed crop. Makes wildlife shots a breeze now instead of buying the more expensive glass.

Image quality is outstanding. 12MPxel camera sensor makes details pop out.

I purchased my Nikon D2X from Cardinal Camera in Lansdale, Pa. The D2X is ergonomically designed, and comfortable to hold in either portrait (vertical) or landscape orientation. The controls are well-placed on the body, and have a solid, professional feel. The 2.5-inch 235,000 pixel LCD provides a very clear view of menu's and image playback. There are a great number of options for focusing; single or continuous servo AF, single focus area or dynamic or select one of the eleven focus points on the fly, and of course full manual focus as well. It provides a wide range of exposure options, including Manual, Program AE with shift, Shutter speed priority up to 1/8,000 sec, Aperture priority, AE Bracketing, WB bracketing, exposure compensation of +/-5EV in 1/3EV steps, single frame drive mode or continuous at 1 to 8fps with a maximum depth of 22 full resolution JPEG images, the framerate and maximum number being user-selectable. The D2X offers three metering modes: 3D Color Matrix, Center-weighted averaging (with your choice of the weighted area: 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm or the entire frame) or 3mm Spot. White balance options are also numerous with presets for Auto, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Direct Sunlight, Flash, Cloudy and Shade which all can be fine tuned +/-3, direct selection of color temperature, plus five manual white balance presets you can save and later recall. The D2X has a very nice feature called High Speed Crop. With High Speed Crop off, the D2X uses the entire 12.4-megapixel CMOS image sensor, shooting at a continuous rate of up to 5 frames per second. Turning the High Speed Crop on converts the D2X into a extremely fast machine, cropping the capture area of the sensor to 6.8-megapixels and boosting the capture rate to 8 frames per second. The image quality can only be described as amazing. Some have questioned the higher ISO picture quality, but at ISO 100-800 the quality is excellent and most all shots can be taken at ISO 200, especially with the Nikon SB-800 Speedlight. Any photographer errors are surely caught by this camera, but properly taken pictures are really impressive. The D2X is expensive but as in most things -you get what you pay for- and the Nikon D2X certainly exempifies that. Highly Recommended!

This camera is simply outstanding!...

Strengths: Outstanding image quality, great white balance performance, very fast focus and shutter speeds, good navigation menus, solid build, good noise performance (ISO 100 - 800)

Weakness: Expensive, heavy, ISO is good up to 800 but deteriorates quite a bit from 800 to 1600, no stops between ISO 800-1600, ISO 3200 should only be used as a last resort, RAW white-balance encryption

This camera is simply outstanding! Aside from the mentioned noise issues (which I would not consider major problems but minor), the worst thing about the camera is the white-balance RAW encryption. This is rather foolish by Nikon considering the WB is so great and this advantage is basically lost if you use Adobe. Nevertheless, I highly recommend this camera!

Super digital camera!!

Strengths: Good resolution, Good toughness battery!!

Weakness: Nothing

I have no concern about this camera.
High speed silent AF, good resolution and toughness battery.
I'm using with 18-200mm VR2 lens and these are good balance.
I don't think that it is heavy weight camera.
Night view photo quality is wonderful!!
