a lot of camera for the price

Strengths: picture quality is terrific,6x zoom is a bonus, the lcd is very good.

Weakness: the switch to view photos and go back to picture taking is still awkward.

after trying a few smaller compacts and being dissapointed at the quality of the photos i did more research and all the research i found pointed back to the a720.it is a little bigger than what i was wanting but in retrospect it's not really very big at all.so far i love this camera.it surpasses my expectations!

Excellent Features For Its Size

Strengths: 6x optical zoom, manual focus, high-quality movies, uses AA batteries

Weakness: flash is slow to recharge, image stabilization (see comments), white balance is not as adjustable

I bought this camera and its companion waterproof housing (WP-DC16) for a diving trip in Mexico. As a photography hobbyist (i.e. not a professional, but one who likes to explore a lot of the settings on the camera), I was quite happy. The camera's auto focus algorithms are definitely a plus. The photos came out excellent. There are several areas were I feel this camera may come up lacking: 1) In...

Great camera for amateurs

Strengths: Uses only 2 AA batteries,6X optical zoom, large LCD with optical viewfinder, easy to grip, & great pictures in low light situations.

Weakness: A little slow from shot to shot when using flash.

I bought this camera for my 40th class reunion after reading the great reviews for it. The lighting was poor in the restaurant, but the pictures turned out great! The guy putting together our class album said my pictures were far better than anyone elses pictures. He even asked me for the name/model # of my camera so he could buy one. I can't say enough good things about the ease of use, quality...

Nice camera - the basics are covered, plus some

Strengths: Large 2.5 inch display, 6X optical zoom, nice pictures

Weakness: When using the flash, you have to wait 4 seconds between shots.

I purchased this camera looking to replace my aging 2.1 MP HP Photosmart. Using Consumer Reports and PriceGrabber for advice, I chose the Powershot A720 IS. Wow - what a difference 8.0 MP makes! The pictures this camera takes have great detail and clarity. The zoom function works well, and the camera can even record video. The menu system and accessing of functions is decent - I haven\\\'t played...

Nice camera!

Strengths: good pictures, mode settings generally work well, easy to use, camera provides indications of when you are zooming too far for photo quality.

Weakness: Eats batteries, Kids and Pets mode isn't good,

This is a good camera for a wide variety of people. It has an auto setting which works very well, making this an excellent cameras for novice photographers who still want excellent photos. It also has manual mode to make the more skilled photographers happy. Either way, it produces excellent images. This is my first digital camera, so please forgive me if I rave about features that are common to...

Canon PowerShot a720IS

Strengths: Easy to handle. Body substantial enough to hold easily, yet not too large. Good quality pictures. Lots of modes and photo options. Large LCD. Also offers optical viewfinder. Easy-to-use controls.

Weakness: Negotiating through the many menus takes some practice. There are so many options the novice photographer may have difficulty understanding them all.

This is a great mid-level camera. The 8 megapixels and 6X optical zoom are more than adequate for large and/or close up prints, and the price makes it affordable. Point and shoot photographers will find it easy to use, yet those looking to take more control of their pictures will also have many options. I'd recommend this camera to anyone looking to upgrade.

Awesome A720IS

Strengths: Excellent image and movie quality, amazing feature set, no shutter lag to speak of, very useful focal range, compact size, face detection is pretty cool!

Weakness: Slow flash recycle, I'd love RAW capability but that's asking a lot, no swivel screen. Maybe too much camera for a beginner.

I'm an avid slr/dslr user, but I wanted a small camera that I could carry around instead of my big gear and picked up an A710IS last year. I loved almost everything about it but I got my A720IS to replace it just before Christmas at Office Depot for $179.99. It's an even better camera with a few added tweaks to make the images better and easier to capture. It also allows me almost as much control...

A Well Rounded, Compact Camera that's Suitable for...

Strengths: Full Manual Control. 8MP! Good viewfinder. Uses 2x AA Batteries, Supports SD-HC memory cards. Supports many add-on lenses and accessories. Lightweight and solid. Fast focus. Great Videos.

Weakness: Slow shot-to-shot + burst speed (1.3 fps), Very Slow shot-to-shot w/ flash. Rear LCD is fixed. No exernal flash mount. Face detection can be annoying. Bundled memory card is tiny.

This camera is an interesting beast as it doesn't seem to be particularly special in any regard. It takes pleasant pictures with good clarity and color, and the rich feature-set will satisfy both novice and experienced photographers. However, the final impression that I'm left with is that this camera is only satisfying--It's sold as a mainstream point-and-shoot with some advanced features--and...

Compact camera w/excellent features

Strengths: Image stabilization, 6X zoom, size, shooting modes

Weakness: Delay between pictures when using flash

At this price range, the camera is feature packed. In addition to full auto, there are a number of shooting modes for various shooting situations as well as manual modes and video. The image stabilization is very effective. The 6X optical zoom is a plus since many comparable cameras only have 3X. The 2.5 inch LCD is sharp except in bright sunlight where it can be difficult to see. However, the...

Canon A720 IS - Great Value for the money

Strengths: Many, many features including full manual control In camera red eye correction actually works! Less noise at higher ISO settings as compared to older models of Canon point and shoots 6X opt. zoom

Weakness: Batteries sometimes fall out when you open the door to remove the memory card. The continous shoot mode seems to keep reverting back to single shot mode---perhaps I am doing something wrong here.

I have 2 dslrs and a Canon S3Is and wanted a compact camera for my purse. I am a cameraholic and have owned many, many digital cameras. I knew the criteria I wanted, and zoom bigger than 3x was one of the criteria. I also wanted something that took AA batteries as I don't plan to upgrade on this for a long time and dont' want to hassle with special batteries. The A720IS is an entry level model as...

Canon PowerShot A720 IS

THE GOOD: Great image quality at lower ISOs; manual exposure controls; quick nonflash performance. THE BAD: Long flash recycle time; highest ISO settings very noisy. THE BOTTOM LINE: Unless you plan to shoot primarily in low light, the Canon PowerShot A720 IS makes a solid, affordable camera that produces great-looking pictures.

DCRP Review: Canon PowerShot A720 IS

I've long been a fan of Canon's PowerShot A-series cameras. They offer photo quality, features, and expandability normally not found on lower-priced cameras. The PowerShot A720 IS continues this tradition, giving users a full-featured camera with a 6X lens and image stabilization for under $250. The A720 is a camera which I can highly recommend. <p>

Canon PowerShot A720 IS Review

Canon seems to offer a digital camera for every kind of customer, and the Canon A720 IS was made for those who want all the performance at a low price. With an 8-megapixel sensor, a 6x zoom, optical image stabilization, face detection, high ISO, and both a 2.5-inch LCD and an optical viewfinder, the Canon A720 IS has just about everything. Minor compromises are the low-resolution LCD and a slow...
