Description:

This versatile and compact 3.6x Zoom-NIKKOR brings the action to the photographer. Ideal for portraiture, family, sports, nature and wildlife. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element minimizes chromatic aberration, contributing to superior optical performance. 7-blade rounded diaphragm provides more natural out-of-focus highlights. Vibration Reduction, engineered specifically for each VR NIKKOR lens, enables handheld shooting at up to 3 shutter speeds slower than would otherwise be possible, assuring dramatically sharper still images and video capture.

Nikon AF-S DX VR 55-200mm Lens

Crutchfield has collected 8 user reviews for this product with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars. The most recent reviewer said, "Great lense, great shots even facing direct at the sunrise. Lightweight and easy to use. Lense comes with storage bag and lense guard. I recommend buying a better storage bag that has a zipper to close versus drawstring, but that's just me being particular. Superb "VR" 55-200mm DX IF-ED lens

Strengths: Vibration reduction (VR), light weight, price, 52mm front threads..

Weakness: Plastic-made..

This is an amazing lens!! The vibration reduction (VR) significantly improves clearness of the photos while the shutter speed is 1/8 sec (probably also great +/- 2 stops). Two sample photos are provided, taken with 1/8 sec. It is light weight, therefore convenient for travel. 52mm from threads reduce the cost on filters. A superb lens sub USD 250. The only thing I would complain is the feeling of...

Large range for making up the D40 kit

Strengths: well-built, solid and reliable

Weakness: I've not found...

VR is good to have on the long end when no tripod is available, great warranty support from Nikon. The VR system works very very good, which can make up for the slow speed of this lens. I can hand hold racked out to 200mm at 1/80. If you don't need speed for sports or shallow depth of field, this is a highly recommendend lens, no doubt on it.

55-200 VR... LOVE This Lens!!

Strengths: Crisp, tack-sharp pictures; quiet; CHEAP; solid build; comes with hood and nice padded lens bag; produces nice bokeh; fast focus

Weakness: Wish it were faster/wider aperture, but hey, that's why it's $200, not $1200!

I LOVE this lens. The quality of the pics it produces is surprisingly good given the price. It's pretty sharp throughout the entire range. The VR works INCREDIBLY well! I have a couple shots at ISO 1600 (no flash) wide open at 1/15" that are pretty dang clear. You can see some on my Flickr page (www.flickr.com/photos/gina4xoxoxo). Look at the pic of the dog named Chumo. The quality of that pic...

Nikon 55-200mm DX VR Lens

Strengths: VR works perfectly. Sharpness, Price, Compactness/lightness

Weakness: Plastic mounting

I just got this lens and I am very impressed with it.
I'm using this lens on a D80 and I've tried it several different conditions, and it's given excellent results every time. The VR really works, and focusing speed is fast enough.
I am glad Nikon made this lens and made it affordable. Highly recommended!
